5 questions with Lochie / Taped.jp

Taped caught my attention early on with his 8mm standard def footage. I've been filming SD footage with Sony VX 1000's and 2000's for probably over 5 years now so naturally I’ll always have a soft spot for it and a huge interest in anyone continuing to use tapes whether it’s VHS, Digital 8 or Mini DV to capture anything these days. Lochie is continuously pumping out solid content along side building a sick Corona, hosting some of Melbourne's best meets and producing some of the nicest car related clothing around, he's really doing it all! So here it is, 5 questions with Taped.jp

First things first, what was your initial introduction to cars?

My dad has always kept me around cars. He has owned his own exhaust shop for 30 years and obviously I saw all the cool shit that came through there. But after he bought his SA22 RX7 about 13 years ago, that's when I fell in love specifically with Japanese cars and rotaries.

That being said, what are you driving or working on currently?

I have both my Coronas. I have the blue st141 sedan that I dailyed for 2 years but it is now replaced by my st141 wagon Olympic edition which is now the daily. The wagon is staying stock as a rock while my sedan gets a true kaido racer treatment.

So what to you is Taped and what is the motivation behind it?

Taped started off as a way for myself to capture drift events using the means that I had, which was my mums old super8 camera. Once I really started getting into drifting and the culture of it in Japan, my goal moved to providing people with the best content I could. Focussing on the coolest cars and events. Essentially I think everyone wants to see their cars in the same context as the cars we look up to, the old d1 machines seen on video option and the likes, and that's what I think filming in 8mm has allowed me to capture well. Now, finding my passion for design, fashion and graphics, using Taped as a vessel for my creative outlets whilst still providing everyone with the best drifting content I can produce.

What can we expect to see from Taped in the near or far future?

What to see from Taped? Well once events are consistently run then obviously as much drifting content as I can provide everyone with. But also as many community based events as I can organise with my friends. Some are under wraps right now but along with the usual cruises and meets, we have some ideas for events that I don't think have been done often in the past and that should be great fun for us all. Product and media wise, while I continue to learn about production processes like printing and creation, a constant increase in the quality of goods I can provide for everyone, challenging the status quo of generic car based brands that litter instagram now by incorporating fashion and streetwear into the car culture. Just the usual of myself pouring everything I can into taped and trying to improve it over time for everyone that has stuck around

Finally, any last words or shoutouts?

Shoutouts, just the usual homies honestly. I can't name everyone that has supported me because I've made so many mates through Taped but blokes like Jordan from Eyetoi, Karol from Peach Garage and Jon from Kanashimi who have helped me so much whilst also just being top blokes and also Shinzo for not just giving me this opportunity but also for being ever supportive. Just want to get back out to film stuff asap because I think I've grown a lot recently and I have a very clear aesthetic and artistic direction that I want to take Taped in and I can't wait to show it to everyone.
